Drill bit with stabilising member

2010
A drill bit (10, fig 1) for drilling a borehole in an earthen formation includes a blade (31-36, fig 1). The blade comprises a number of forward facing primary cutter elements (40, fig 1) mounted at different radial positions on a cutter-supporting surface (42, fig 1). The cutting profiles of the cutting faces define an outermost cutting profile PO in rotated profile view. A stabilising member (270, fig 17) is also mounted to the cutter supporting surface and has a concave end distal to said surface. The concave end includes two separate tips 273aT, 273bT. The tips are each offset, by a distance O, from the outermost cutting profile PO in rotated profile view.
