On the influence of secondary low molecular weight products on the polymerization rate of propylene by the TiCl3-based catalytic system

1982
The polymerization of propylene on the high-activity catalytic system TiCl3+Et2AlCl and on the catalytic system TiCl3(TAC-132) + Et2AlCl has been investigated. Some possible schemes and some reasons for the formation of propylene dimers are discussed. It is demonstrated that the propylene dimers influence the polymerization. The proposed mathematical model of the polymerization process takes diffusion retardation and the influence of dimers into account, whereby a reasonably accurate description of the reaction is obtained.
