Evaluation of the effectiveness of the 21st century community schoolhouse

2001
This evaluation sought the opinions and perceptions of persons having an interest in the 21st Century Community Schoolhouse implementation and operation: parents who elected to send their children to a new, unfamiliar school with many unknowns surrounding its operation; students who chose to attend, either enthusiastically or reluctantly, leaving friends and familiar patterns of behavior; the 21st Century Community Schoolhouse faculty and staff who chose to seek a charter and teach in a fledgling school operation; members of the Salem downtown core who would interact with the students in the downtown area. All of these groups had some reason to be interested, apprehensive, concerned, and hopeful as the school opened in September, 2001. This evaluation asked the general question 4) How do stakeholders view the implementation and effects of the 21st Century Community Schoolhouse? This question was broken into the following subparts: What are Community Schoolhouse parents’ perceptions of the school and its effects on their children? How do Community Schoolhouse parents view their interaction and involvement with the Community Schoolhouse programs? What are Community Schoolhouse students’ views/perceptions of Community Schoolhouse What are Community Schoolhouse staff views of the implementation, operation, and outcomes of Community Schoolhouse? What are the views of local businesses and the Salem-Keizer Community about the Community Schoolhouse program and its students?
