SYNTHESIS AND ANTICONVULSANT ACTIVITY OF N-SUBSTITUTED-7-HYDROXY-4-METHYL-2-OXA-QUINOLINE DERIVATIVES

The reaction of resorcinol with ethyl acetoacetate yielded the 7-hydroxy-4-methyl coumarin, which on treatment with substituted thiadiazole in presence of glacial acetic acid gives 7-hydroxy-4-methyl-1-5-phenyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2yl,qinoline-2(1H)-one. Purity of synthesized compound was checked by TLC and structures were elucidated by their IR, 1H NMR and elemental analysis data. The synthesized compounds were screened for anticonvulsant activity.
