Sizing and optimisation of a standalone hybrid system for electrification of a remote site at Ouled Fares, Algeria

2017
AbstractCurrently, the diesel generator is the most used technique for the electrification of isolated sites. However, the access to these sites is being generally long and difficult, the costs of maintenance and fuel supply are very high. The exploitation of renewable energy resources (solar and wind) in combination with a diesel generator to produce electricity proves to be the cost-effective in remote areas. To this end, the paper proposes the use of PV/Wind/Diesel hybrid generator system with storage in order to electrify a village at Ouled Fares. Weather data were collected in the weather stations placed at Ouled Fares and Mouafkia in Chlef, for temperature and wind speed and CDER station for solar irradiation during year 2015. The object of our study is to simulate different technological choices in the design of hybrid system with storage to power the site. After inputting the solar/wind resources along the year with the cost of equipment, HOMER software gives the ‘Optimal System Type’ based purely...
