Wideband microwave generation based on a DFB laser under optical injection

Wideband microwave generation based on a distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser under optical injection is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By together or separately adjusting the wavelength, power of the master laser and changing the polarization state of the injected light, microwave signals with frequency tuning range from 9.63 GHz to 19.11 GHz are obtained. The single sideband (SSB) phase noise of the generated 14.09-GHz microwave signal is measured to be –105.74 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset.
