Heterogeneous Precipitation Derrived Al2O3/ZrO2 Composite☆

Abstract We prepared nanoscale Al 2 O 3 -coated ZrO 2 composite powders via a heterogeneous precipitation process. The technique parameters were preliminarily found to influnce the behaviors of composite powders. The surface property, phase composition and morphology of the composite powders were characterized by Zeta potential apparatus, XRD, SEM and EDS, respectively, which indicate that when the composite powders were further calcined at 1000 °C for 2 h following the coating treatment, the fracture toughness and bending strength of ceramics sintered at 1600 °C significantly enhanced.
