Low profile RF feed networks using RF photonics

2017
Low profile integration is desirable in all RF phased array feed networks. Accordingly, this paper presents an RF photonic feed system that is not only low profile, but offers scalability, wide operational bandwidth and multi-functionality. The approach uses a silicon micro-mirror for vertically feeding an optical fiber to a photodiode that is directly coupled to an antenna element in the phased array, which ensures low profile while preserving uniform beam quality.
