In recent years advances in sensor technology and microelectronics have opened the way to new dimensions in monitoring and treatment, and growing attendance has been focussed on the development of multifunctional catheters. This approach, however, sets high demands on technology to achieve long-term stability of the sensors and on operational complexity and memory capacity of the processing units.
