RFID: Ideas for Future Development

2004
RFID technology is employed in inventory and warehouse management, transportation and logistics, medicine and production, but the real goal is the retail market. To reach this wide spread diffusion the cost of a tag should not be higher than a few cents. Such level will probably be only reached through some innovation in RFID technology and such technology breakthrough seems to be identified in organic electronics and in conductive polymeric materials. Organic RFID (ORFID) in fact have been already considered by several industrial and academic research teams. In this work we propose examples of OTFTs (organic thin film transistors), logic circuitry and tag polymeric antennas that could be candidate for ORFID development.
