Blood flow in the reproductive tract of the domestic hen

1975
Abstract 1. 1. The indicator dilution technique (Rb 86 ) was used to measure the cardiac output and blood flow through the reproductive organs of conscious laying hens. 2. 2. The mean cardiac output was 137 ± 7 ml/min per kg and appeared constant over the laying cycle. 3. 3. The blood flow through the infundibulum, isthmus and vagina showed no statistically significant changes through the cycle. 4. 4. The perfusion of blood through the uterus was highest during shell formation. 5. 5. The flow through the magnum was highest 0·5 hr after oviposition. 6. 6. The growing ovarian follicles received a constant blood flow unrelated to their size.
