MPC based Automatic Generation Control Scheme for Power System

2020
An Automatic Generation Control (AGC) for a power system is presented in this article. This AGC environment utilized Model Predictive Control (MPC) technique which is appropriate for dominant large-scale complex power system. The study is performed using a specific MPC scheme to obtain the system dynamic responses. Furthermore, the responses obtained using MPC controller is compared with the response obtained by conventional Integral, Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller. On comparison, significant improvements are observed in the overshoot, undershoot and settling time of the various plots that are obtained by MPC technique, thus indicating the potential advantages of MPC based controller over conventional Integral, PID controller. The general model predictive control system is rotten into subsystems, with its own MPC system. These subsystems based MPC work iteratively and hand in glove towards satisfying system under defined control objectives. The proposed MPC provides a sensible solution for illustrating the effective planning of AGC framework.
