Analysis of factors influencing the prevalence of uterine fibroids in nurses

2020
Objective To investigate the prevalence of uterine fibroids(UF) in nurses and analyze the factors that influence this condition. Methods We used convenience cluster sampling and selected 2 019 nurses who participated in the spring physical examination at our hospital between January and April 2018. The medical examination data were collected and nurses were asked to complete a self-developed questionnaire. Descriptive and binomial logistic regression analyses were used to determine the prevalence and factors influencing the development of UF in nurses. Results The prevalence of UF in the nurse population was 17.3%. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that age, length of service, professional title, family history, and total cholesterol level were risk factors for UF in nurses(P < 0.05). Having children and menarche age were protective factors(P < 0.05). Conclusion UF are highly prevalent in nurses and are associated with various factors. Nurses should take active measures to reduce their exposure to known risk factors, thereby potentially improving their health.
