Oxidation of sulphur compounds of petroleum to sulphones under foam-emulsion conditions

1994
A study has been made of the hydrogen peroxide oxidation of sulphur compounds in diesel fraction and also a sulphoxide concentrate to sulphones under foam-emulsion conditions in the presence of acids. It has been established that, when a mixture of sulphuric and acetic acids is used, the sulphone content of the oxidate is higher than in the presence of each of the acids separately. It has been shown that, with the foam-emulsion oxidation of sulphoxide concentrate, the duration of the reaction is shortened by a factor of 20 and the viscosity of the sulphones produced is lower by comparison with oxidation in a reactor with a mechanical stirrer
