Planar Asymmetric Single Split Left Handed Metamaterial

The article presents a new Asymmetric Single Split Resonator (ASSR) for negative permeability metamaterial applications with frequency and bandwidth tuning and its characteristics. The proposed uniplanar structure is a modified form of popular symmetric double ring Split Ring Resonator (SRR) with a single split on the outer ring. The prototype is analyzed based on reflection and transmission coefficients and unit cell simulations. The asymmetry variation and the variation in coupling with split orientation are studied as a method to improve the bandwidth of the same which reveals it as a right candidate for metamaterial applications.
