Adrenaline-induced hypercholesterolemia in the rainbow trout (Salmo gairdnerii Richardson): a separate study in male and female trout and the effect of adrenergic blocking agents.

1972
Abstract 1. 1. Adrenaline was injected intra-muscularly at the rate of 50 μg/ 100 g. 2. 2. The increase of adrenalinemia fell rapidly and its value was quite normal after 48 hr. 3. 3. Free fatty acids and total protein levels in plasma did not change at any time after injection. 4. 4. An increase in cholesterolemia was noted after 5 and 16 hr. Male animals had a greater reactivity than females. 5. 5. β-Adrenergic blocking agents (propranolol and pindolol) had no influence on adrenaline-induced hypercholesterolemia. Phentolamine caused a total inhibition of adrenaline activity.
