La migración forzada de orenses ante el conflicto bélico peruano-ecuatoriano de 1941

2020
Until now, historiography has approached the Peruvian-Ecuadorian war in 1941 from a strictly military perspective, focusing on aspects related to its operations and war strategies. However, the main objective of this paper is to analyse the social impact generated by the war in the province of El Oro and its derived repercussions, as a consequence of a considerable population displacement towards other areas of Ecuador, especially Guayaquil as the destination of this massive exodus of orenses people, who were fleeing from the devastating effects of the war and the very same territorial occupation by the Peruvian army. The main direct sources used in this work are the Municipal Acts of the Machala Cantonal Council of 1941-42 and the Ecuadorian national press, due to the absence of scientific productions and documentary supports, both written and oral testimonies. Therefore, this contribution aims to shed light on an unpublished subject and to cover this existing historiographic deficit, under the use of a historical-qualitative methodology, supported by documentary analysis with the purpose of reconstructing the social situation of the Orense exiles in Guayaquil.
