Participants’ Evaluation of Skill Development Training in Construction Sector: A Study of NAC

2016
Indian construction industry has been consistently witnessing growth and contributing to the economic development of the nation. It is the second major employer, after agriculture. The reason for labour requirement in this sector is primarily because of its linkage with various other sectors in the economy. A major constraint forming a road-block for the growth is the availability of skilled-labour workforce. The National Academy of Construction (NAC) was set-up to train the workforce of various trades of construction. NAC is fulfilling its objective by providing training to unemployed and unskilled workers to make them suitable for the industry requirements and also to semi-skilled workforce for upgrading their skills. One of the features of the training is the industrial placement of trainees on successful completion of training. The current paper is aimed at measuring the impact of training provided by NAC. It therefore provides insights of overall development accomplished by individual trainee after receiving training and also evaluate training effectiveness.
