Using a Knowledge System to Document and Evaluate Faculty Productivity in a College of Business

1995
Abstract This article proposes revising the system presently used for faculty evaluation in most colleges and universities to meet the increasing public demand for accountability and relevance in faculty work activities. A computer-based knowledge system that assists faculty and administrators in defining, documenting, and evaluating faculty productivity is described. Results of the system's application in an information systems department of a college of business suggest that knowledge-based systems may be of value in improving faculty productivity documentation, evaluating faculty productivity more objectively, and linking institutional policy to faculty teaching, research, and service activities.
