Incompetência istmo-cervical: atualização

2012
Cervical insufficiency is defined as a congenital or acquired weakness in the region that connects the internal cervical os and the distal cervix. It occurs a painless dilatation and shortening of the cervix in the second trimester, and more rarely, in the first weeks of the third trimester, resulting in the protrusion or rupture of the fetal membranes, which can lead to pre-term birth or pregnancy loss. This situation is often preventable and its effec- tive treatment avoids the repetition of events in posterior pregnancies.
