Differential for axle drive of automobile

PURPOSE: To manufacture and assemble a cage with an optimum stiffness, a reduced weight and lower cost by forming the cage, which supports axle gears, with a tube portion, and providing at least two diametical bores for receiving axles on the wall of the tube portion. CONSTITUTION: A differential is formed with two pot-like members 3, 4, it is provided with a differential case 2 fixed with a drive gear 1 on the outer periphery, and the free end portions of opposite second axles 5, 6 are inserted into the case 2. Axle gears 7, 8 made of a bevel gear respectively are supported on the free end portions of the axles 5, 6 axially slidably and relatively unrotatably and are meshed with differential gears 9, 10 made of a bevel gear respectively. The gears 7-10 are partially surrounded by a cage 20, the cage 20 is made of a tube portion, the axles 5, 6 are inserted into bores 23, 24 formed on the tube portion, and shaft pins 11 are inserted into bores 25, 26 provided perpendicularly to the bores 23, 24 respectively.
