The invention provides a symbol turn-off method and device. The method comprises the steps that a baseband processing unit BBU periodically checks the distribution of service data to be sent of all physical resource blocks PRB on the time domain and frequency domain; the BBU counts the time slot sum P of the service data to be sent of each PRB on the whole time domain and frequency domain; the BBU calculates q, wherein q= Gamma(P/n) , the Gamma means round up to an integer, and n is a sub-carrier number of the PRB on the frequency domain; the BBU selects q time domain symbols on the PRB, the service data to be sent of the PRB on the whole time domain are adjusted to the selected q time domain symbols, and a power amplifier PA of the time domain symbols which are not selected on the PRB is turned off. The gain brought by the turning off of the time domain symbols is increased by the adoption of the symbol turn-off method and device.
