The invention relates to a method for preparing high-purity yttrium oxide from gemstone waste and/or ceramic waste, and belongs to the technical field of preparation of rare-earth oxides. The method comprises the following steps of: converting yttrium oxide in the gemstone waste and/or the ceramic waste into yttrium sulfate by acidification reaction, neutralizing the yttrium sulfate to generate yttrium hydroxide, adding oxalic acid to extract yttrium oxalate, roasting the yttrium oxalate, and thus obtaining the yttrium oxide. By the method, decomposition, purification and reuse of the gemstone waste and the ceramic waste are realized, energy is saved, the production process is simplified, the production efficiency is improved, and high-purity zirconium oxide is also produced; the prepared yttrium oxide product is white, high in purity and low in impurity content; and the mass content of the yttrium oxide is over 99.5 percent.
