The operative treatment of strabismus.

1954
After a short historical survey the general indications for operative treatment are discussed. There are functional, aesthetic and social motives. As a rule operation should only be resorted to when other methods (correction of refraction errors, orthoptic training) will not give satisfactory results or take effect too slowly. Operation in early youth may however be indicated as a preparation for orthoptic training.
