Bone Conduction Hearing Aid for Microtia Patient Using Open MHA Library

2020
Microtia is a congenital abnormality that affects the form of ear. The incidence of microtia falls within the range of around 3–10 in 10,000 live births. Microtia patients sometimes have difficulties in the hearing process because of their ear form. The auricle that acts as a catcher for sound is gone or is not working normally. Because of this, the sound cannot be transmitted to the tympanic membrane. A method called Bone Conduction is introduced. Bone conduction (BC) is the way sound energy is transmitted by the skull bones to the cochlea causing a sound perception. By using this method, a system that transmits a sound energy to the microtia patient will be an alternative way for their hearing problems. Hopefully, our proposed system that implements the bone conduction method will meet their needs, not only for their hearing problem but also their social problems, such as pricing, styling, and usability.
