Multimedia by Multimedia: A European Inter-university Project

The development of multimedia, hypermedia and the Internet have enabled significant organisational changes to the way we teach and learn. This paper describes the initiative taken by a group of academics from five European universities to integrate cyberspace and learning in a virtual environment into their curricula. The project, which was funded by the European Union programme, SOCRATES, developed a course to explore the implications of multimedia systems for European partnership, which can be accessed through the medium of Internet technology. Resume Le developpement du multimedia, de l’hypermedia et de l’Internet permet de changer profondement l’organisation des manieres d’enseigner et d’apprendre. Ce papier decrit l’initiative d’un groupe d’universitaires appartenant a cinq etablissements europeens pour integrer a leur programme d’enseignement le cyberespace et l’apprentissage dans un environnement virtuel. Le projet, qui a obtenu un financement du programme SOCRATES de l’Union europeenne, a developpe un cours qui explore les implications des systemes multimedias pour des partenariats europeens. L’acces a ce cours est entierement fonde sur la technologie Internet.
