Modeling of Transport, Mixing and Deposition of Air Pollutants over Inhomogeneous Terrain including Chemical Reactions

2000
A simulation of the air pollution for 16th September 1992 was carried out with the model system KAMM/DRAIS. This is a day of the second intensive measuring period of the TRACT experiment. It was selected, because a complex meteorological field was observed at this day. Especially orographically influenced flow systems developed during that day. It is shown that these flows strongly influence the diurnal cycle of the air pollutants. As examples the effects of the valley wind system at Freiburg, the stagnating air masses in parts of the Upper Rhine Valley and the sea breeze flow around Lake Constance are presented. Most of the observed features of the flow field and the species concentration distributions are simulated by the model.
