LEFT VERTEBRAL ARTERY HYPOPLASIA IN A TEENAGER WITH VERTIGO AND HYPOTENSION – CASE REPORT

2015
The vertebral arteries (VA) as a part of the vertebrobasilar cerebral circulation are one of the main branches of the subclavian artery. They have a diameter that varies from 1.5 to 5.0 mm. Congenital vertebral artery (VA) hypoplasia is an uncommon embryonic variation of posterior circulation with a frequency reported to be 2-6% from autopsy and angiograms. Vertigo is an illusion of movement, often horizontal and rotatory. In this article we present the case of a teenager diagnosed with left vertebral artery hypoplasia after episodes of headache, vertigo, drop attack and hypotension.
