Investigation of Rectifier Operation with Harmonic Controlled Input Signals towards Pulse Modulation WiCoPT System

2020
This paper investigates the rectifier operation with harmonic controlled input signals. Compared with continuous wave (CW) input signal, a fundamental signal with odd harmonics increases the output voltage and the RF-DC power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the rectifier by optimizing the amplitudes and phases of the odd harmonics. Analysis to use various pulse waveform signals clarified that the optimal waveform to maximize the PCE of a single shunt rectifier circuit is the square wave signal, and the PCE improvement achieves more than 5points against CW input signal at −3dBm input power. However, experimental results with the fabricated single-shunt rectifier indicate that use of the triangle waveform realizes the most efficient signal for the PCE. That result could be occurred by adjusting the phase of the 3rd harmonic signal in the rectifier.
