Dragon versus Elephant: A Comparison of Pattern of Agriculture in Two Asian Economies - China and India

2020
India and China are two Asian giants, which have emerged as fastest growing economies of the world. Agriculture has been the mainstay of both the economies. India is one of the largest producers of agricultural goods but fairs poorly in terms of productivity as compared to China. It is both fascinating and noteworthy to compare the pattern of agricultural growth of these neighbouring countries and draw lessons for the Indian agricultural sector. It was discerned that China's per hectare productivity surpassed that of India by a good margin. China's prudent agricultural policy with due focus on R&D, increased FDI for development of rural infrastructure, organic farming and use of biotechnology was primarily responsible for its supremacy in agricultural scenario.
