Clinical analysis of 21 cases of retrocaval ureter

2001
Purpose:To evaluate the diagnosis and treatment of retrocaval ureter. Methods:The combination of several image methods was used to make the diagnoses. Operation is the the treatment of choice for retrocaval ureter, we dismembered the ureter and anastomosed it anterolaterally which will rehabilitate the ureter in front of the inferior vena cava. Results:Diagnosis was confirmed in all 21 cases before the operation. All cases underwent successful operation. The patients have been followed up for 6~12 months without stenosis. Hydronephrosis was relieved with good renal function. Conclusions:Retrocaval ureter is caused by the abnormal development of inferior vena cava in the embryonic phase. Diagnosis depends on the combination of several image methods. Dismembered Ureteroplasty is the main operative procedure for the treatment of retrocaval ureter.
