For many years, Mannesmann Demag have been constructing building machinery and telescopic cranes for load categories of over 100 tons. In order to provide a more versatile program to customers, the firm decided to set up a production plant for smaller cranes for a load range of from 30 to 100 tons. At Zweibrucken, cranes are first coated and then assembled. Integration of the bottleneck produced by just-in-time surface techniques necessistated a reversal of the production sequence
