Microbiological Quality in Cosmetics

Abstract The aims of this chapter are to provide insight into the field of cosmetic microbiology and expand knowledge of the general demands on the microbiological analysis of cosmetic products. Data about legislation in the United States and the European Union and the published harmonised standards for microbiological control of cosmetic products, before, during and at end of use are presented. Moreover, information about the recall of cosmetics contaminated by microorganisms from the market and about bacterial resistance to cosmetic preservatives is given.
