Charcot arthropathy following digital replantation
1995
Charcot joints are characterized by laxity, bone resorption, juxta-articular soft tissue bone fragments, and, ultimately, joint space narrowing and sclerosis. '-5 Seen as a sequela to diabetes mellitus, tertiary syphilis, leprosy, syringomyelia, paraplegia, and congenital insensitivity to pain, the common factor to such severe joint destruction has been attributed to denervation of the joint. '5 Neuroarthropathy following surgical or traumatic denervation of a joint, however, has not to our knowledge been reported.
