DEVELOPMENT OF THE ITER CENTRAL SOLENOID SCALABLE MODEL COIL

1993
The central solenoid scalable model coil (CS–SMC) has been planned as the R&D for the central solenoid coil of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor. The CS–SMC requires a conductor which can be operated at a high field of 13 T and a high current of 40 kA, in pulsed operation with a high rate of 2 T/s. A cable–in–conduit conductor is adopted for low AC losses and high stability. A strand of high critical current density and low AC losses has been developed. About 20 m full–size conductor is under trial fabrication.
