The invention provides an application program management method and an electronic device. The method includes the steps that selection operation of a user on shortcuts of at least two application programs is received; a folder is generated, wherein the folder contains the shortcuts of the application programs selected in the selection operation; an identification of the folder is modified into an identification of the shortcut of the first application program, and the modified identification of the folder is displayed, wherein the shortcut of the first application program is one of the shortcuts of the selected application programs, and the folder is provided with an interface responding to preset touch operation according to the matching relation between the preset touch operation and the shortcuts of the application programs in the folder. According to the method and the electronic device, private application programs which the owner of the electronic device does not want other people to see can be hidden, and embarrassment caused when other people see the private application programs is effectively avoided.
