Introduction: Burnout syndrome (SB), is a type of work stress, considered by the World Health organization as an occupational disease that leads to the deterioration of physical and mental health in people; since it is believed that it results from the failure of the individual to adapt to work situations that generate high and prolonged stress, continually appearing in health professionals. Objective: The objective of this investigation was to characterize the cargo handled by informal workers for loading and unloading food in the market square of the city of Valledupar.Methodology: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in a small first-level health institution of complexity, where the study subject was health workers. Results: 19 health workers were surveyed. Compared to the prevalence of the dimensions, it was shown that Professional Achievement was 63.16% for high, Depersonalization 63.16% for low and Emotional Exhaustion 63.16% for low. It is considered that a prevalence of 10.53% for burnout syndrome in the studied group makes it necessary to seek further study of this syndrome in small health institutions, with the inclusion of cross-cultural factors and particular characteristics related to the position of health personnel, and that allows comparison with data obtained from larger and more complex institutions.Discussion and Conclusion: it was found that the level of personal achievement was high in non-professionals with 66.67% and high in professionals with 61.54%.
