Preventive effect of atorvastatin on postoperative restenosis of carotid endarterectomy

2014
Objective To evaluate the preventive effect of atorvastatin on postoperative resteno-sis of carotid endarterectomy( CEA). Methods From January 2010 to March 2012,a total of 84 pa-tients who underwent CEA were enrolled in the study,62 patients took atorvastatin and 22 patients didn’t take any statins, and they were followed up for 12 months. The patency of carotid artery and the level of blood lipid was observed, and the preventive effect of atorvastatin on restenosis after CEA was evaluated. Results The levels of blood total cholesterol( TC)and low-density lipoprotein( LDL)of patients who took atorvastatin were lower than those in the patients who didn’t take atorvastatin, and the level of high density lipoprotein( HDL)was relatively higher than that in patients didn’t take atorvastatin, the differences were significant( P〈0. 05 ). There were both 7 patients with restenosis in patients who took atorvastatin and didn’t take atorvastatin, and 2 patients with carotid artery occlusion in patients who didn’t take atorvastatin, there was significant difference. Conclusions Atorvastatin has positive preventive effect on postoperative carotid artery restenosis of patients with CEA. Key words: Carotid endarterectomy; Atorvastatin; Restenosis
