A novel modeling and HIL simulation of surface-mount PM taking iron loss and saturation into account

2008
In this paper, a novel model for surface-mount PM (SPM), which takes the iron losses and machine parameters variation into account is presented. If the voltage of the copper resistance is ignored in the electric drive running at a high speed, the traditional equivalent circuit with a serial and parallel circuit could be transformed into a simple parallel circuit. The phasors diagram and two-axis equivalent circuits of the SPM in d e -q e rotational synchronous frame are analyzed. The electromechanical energy conversion is discussed and the mathematic models (i.e., voltage, current, flux and torque equations) of SPM are proposed. To demonstrate the influence on the electric machines performance due to the model variations, a small signal model is adopted. To validate the proposed model, a 8-pole 1 KW SPM is chosen in this study. The simulation is done in Matlab/Simulink, particularly, comparisons between the proposed SPM model and the traditional model presented in other literatures, e.g., the input and output power, electromagnetic loss, operational efficiency are discussed. A test bench based on Matlab/dSPACE hardware-in-loop simulation system is constructed. The simulation and experimental results show that this model simplifies the modeling of SPM with a good accuracy.
