CIRCULAR DICHROISM OF COBALT(III) COMPLEXES CONTAINING OPTICALLY ACTIVE 1,3-DIPHENYL-1,3-PROPANEDIAMINE

Four optical isomers of [Co(en)2(rac-dppn)]3+(en = ethylenediamine, rac-dppn = (R,R)- or (S,S)-1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanediamine) and a pair of enantiomers of [Co(NH3)4(rac-dppn)]3+ were prepared and circular dichroism (CD) spectra obtained. The calculated vicinal effect curve for the dppn in [Co(en)2(dppn)]3+ differs greatly from that in [Co(NH3)4(dppn)]3+. Such a difference was not observed between those of the corresponding new stilbenediamine (stien) complexes, [Co(en)2(l-stien)]3+ and [Co(NH3)4(l-stien)]3+.
