Investigation and analysis of Demodex infection and correlated factors for different members of the service industry in Guilin

To investigate Demodex infection in 646 barbers,hairdressers,and hotel waiters/waitresses.The total rate of Demodex infection was 55.26%(357/646);barbers had the highest rate of infection of 81.77%(157/192) compared to hairdressers with 66.91%(93/139) and hotel waiters/waitresses with 33.97%(107/315).The rate on infection was 36.61% for males(67/183) and 62.63% for females(290/463).Barbers and hairdressers who used towels and shaved customers had a rate on infection of 91.13%(267/293)while barbers and hairdressers who did not had a rate of infection of 32.01%(113/353).Individuals with healthy facial skin had a rate on infection of 17.60%(41/233)while individual who did not had a rate on infection of 76.51%(316/413).Demodex infection was closely associated with personal hygiene,which suggests that enhancing education and encouraging good personal hygiene are keys to preventing Demodex infections.
