Lateral Pile Load Testing for the I-15 Design-Build Project

Earthquake loadings produced significant lateral design forces for the I-15 project. To facilitate design of laterally loaded pile foundations, ten single pile load tests were performed and used to calibrate computer models for soil structure interaction. Pile group load reduction factors (p-multipliers) were also developed as a function of spacing based on five full-scale group load tests. Passive pressure tests were performed to evaluate the static and dynamic resistance at abutments.
