New Control Design Method for First Order and Approximated First Order Systems

2015
This paper extends writers' previous work and proposes a new simple and efficient P-, PI-, PD- and PID- controllers design method to cope with a wide range of first order systems (FOS) and systems that can be approximated as first order, to achieve an important design compromise, acceptable stability, and medium fastness of response. The proposed method is based on relating and selecting controllers' gains based on system's parameters. Simple set of formulas are proposed for calculating and soft tuning of controllers' gains. For some systems, the proposed method presents a good starting design point but may require further fine-tuning. The proposed controllers design method was tested using MATLAB/Simulink for different FOS and systems that can be approximated as first order. The result obtained show applicability and simplicity of proposed design method and expressions.
