El absceso dentoalveolar agudo como urgencia estomatológica en pacientes adultos

Introduction: in dentistry practice, one of the periapical processes, the most common observed in emergency services, is the acute dentoalveolar abscess. Objective: to describe the behavior of acute dentoalveolar abscess as an emergency in the adult population. Material and Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted at Hemanos Saiz Dentist Office from San Juan y Martinez, Pinar del Rio (September 2013-2014). The target group was comprised of 120 patients with acute dentoalveolar abscess, according to the clinical characteristics and history of patient, known by the interview. Out of them, 80 patients were taking as a sample at random; processing data manually and presented in tables percentage method to sum it up. Results: male patients were the most affected, ages from 35 to 59 predominated. Clinical phases I and II were the most frequent found, inferior molars showed the highest vulnerability; pain was the prevailing symptom, while nobody complained of malaise. The diagnosis of this pathology in early stages (I) is directly proportional of a favorable natural history of the clinical chart. Conclusions: the behavior of acute dentoalveolar abscess as an emergency in adult population was described, which made possible the proposal of new researches about related factors to the origin and prevention of such entity.
