Electrical conductivity of samples of the V/sub 2/O/sub 5/-V/sub 2/O/sub 3/-Cu system

1987
High-conductivity ceramic materials may be used for regulating the hydrodynamic properties of melts in the fusion channel of induction furnaces. Materials containing V/sub 2/O/sub 5/, V/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and Cu are promising in this respect. The authors have studied the phase composition and the temperature dependence of conductivity of samples made from mixtures of these substances. The results of studies of the phase composition and properties of ceramics consisting of V/sub 2/O/sub 5/, V/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and Cu make it possible to optimize their composition, and indicate that the required heat-strength characteristics are due to the presence of V/sub 2/O/sub 5/ in the original mixture, while the electrophysical characteristics are governed by the presence of a mixture of V/sub 2/O/sub 3/ and metallic copper.
