A numerical framework for modeling electrotaxis in bone cell cultures

Electrotaxis denotes the cell migration induced by the presence of an external electric field (EF). The aim of this work is to introduce a numerical framework for modeling osteogenic cell dynamics when an EF is applied. The approach uses the idea that under an impressed EF cells may behave as dipoles due to their dielectric nature. Since numerical results match experimental reports on electrotaxis, the model may be suitable to study causal relations between EF and cell behavior.
