Very low profile Inverted-F antenna with 2.4/5.8 GHz WiFi for metal-cover tablet computer

A novel low-profile Inverted-F Antenna (IFA) for tablet computer with complete metal-back cover operating in 2.4 GHz (2412–2472 MHz) and 5.8 GHz (5725–5825 MHz) WiFi bands is presented. The height of the proposed antenna is just 3 mm. Owing to the simplicity if IFA design, the proposed antenna can operate as a quarter-wavelength IFA structure at 2.4 GHz, and a half-wavelength loop structure at 5.8 GHz. Furthermore, high realized gain of approximately 6.8 dBi at 2.4 GHz is also achieved. Due to its low profile characteristic, the proposed dual-band IFA is very promising in metal portal devices.
