Endoscopic Transthoracic Sympathectomy in the Treatment of Primary Palmar Hyperhidrosis in Children

1999
Palmar hyperhidrosis is a disabling condition for a significant number of young children of early primary school age [1]. Its etiology is unknown, and excessive sweating usually affects the palms, axillae, and soles and in some cases the face, groin and legs. It has been reported as a symptom of central nervous system disorders with irritative lesions of the hypothalamus, and in hyperpituitarism [2]. Children with hyperhidrosis, especially palmar, are loath to shake hands, and suffer serious psychological, social, and occupational disabilities.
