Production process and service of quartz steel-casting refractories. Part 1. Features of the process

Conditions for manufacturing quartz refractories with a prolonged service life are formulated. The most important technological factor consists in preparation of limitingly concentrated suspensions of molten quartz (12–13% moisture content) with a high degree of polydispersity for slip casting or centrifugal shaping. A method for shaping articles based on ceramic castable mixtures that makes it possible to reduce the porosity of shaped semifinished products to 7–12% is suggested. The dynamics of the growth of the production of quartz refractories at the Pervouralskii Dinas Plant is described. The output has been increased fourfold during the last four years.
