Evaluation of the In-service Reproductive Health Training Project: North Central Plateau and Artibonite departments. MSPP / FHI / FNUAP / USAID 1998-2000. Final report.

2001
Despite the improved skills of service providers resulting from the intensive training in contraceptive technology and counseling skills there remain daunting obstacles in Haiti to the provision of family planning services to those at risk of unplanned or unwanted pregnancies. Not surprisingly these have not changed dramatically: clinic staff cited lack of staff and shortages of family planning methods IEC materials and medical equipment/supplies. Also mentioned were demand-related issues such as persisting traditional/religious beliefs in the community client inability to pay for services and client aversion to perceived (as well as actual) side effects of modern methods. This evaluation reveals numerous opportunities to improve family planning services with provider training. It is hoped that the results presented in this report will aid in on-going efforts to improve the quality of reproductive health in Haiti. (excerpt)
